Auburn, AL – September 16, 2024 – Join us on Friday, September 27, 2024, for the Ales for ALS Release Party at New Realm Brewing Company in Auburn! This exciting event, hosted by Ales for ALS, New Realm Brewing, Gary Godfrey, and Luke Deal, offers a unique opportunity for Auburn and Oklahoma fans to come together and enjoy the first pours of New Realm’s Ales for ALS Brew 2586.

Brew 2586 is a special creation of Austin Hill, a grad student in the Brewing Science and Operations program at Auburn University and the new brew is named in honor of event co-hosts Gary Godfrey and Luke Deal. Both Gary and Luke share a personal and athletic connection to Auburn University—Gary was a member of the Auburn basketball team (#25), and Luke currently plays for the Auburn football team (#86). Beyond the sports arena, both men have been personally touched by ALS. Gary is currently living with the disease, and Luke lost his father, Chris, to ALS in 2022.

The brew is part of Ales for ALS™, a national initiative that partners with craft brewers to raise funds for ALS research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), the world’s largest nonprofit biotech dedicated solely to ALS research. The Release Party aims to unite the community in raising awareness about ALS and generating critical funds to find treatments and cures for this devastating disease.

Additional Event: Auburn vs. Oklahoma Football Game

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Auburn will host Oklahoma in a home football game dedicated to raising awareness and support for ALS. As part of this special event, honorary captains will be recognized, shining a spotlight on the fight against ALS.

Representing Oklahoma, Lorraine Dixon, Ricky’s wife, and Alana Dixon, his daughter, will serve as honorary coin toss captains in memory of Ricky Dixon, a former Oklahoma star who played in the NFL for the Bengals, Raiders, and Packers, and passed away from ALS in 2020.

For Auburn, Leah and Luke Deal will serve as honorary captains in honor of Chris Deal, Luke’s father and a former Lenior-Rhyne University football player, who lost his battle with ALS in 2022. Leah Deal is Luke’s mother and Chris’s widow.

About Ales for ALS™

Ales for ALS™ is a growing national initiative that unites craft breweries around the country to accelerate cures for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Each year, participating Ales for ALS™ brewers receive a free blend of specialty hops from Loftus Ranches and Yakima Chief Hops. Brewers then create a one-of-a-kind beer and donate $1 per pint sold to support ALS research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) – the world’s largest nonprofit biotech dedicated solely to ending ALS.
