November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor the vital role caregivers play in the lives of their loved ones. This month, ALS TDI will spotlight inspiring stories of family members who provide essential care for those living with ALS, celebrating their compassion, resilience, and unwavering support.

Lacey’s dad, Bill, a veteran, was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS just 30 days after retiring from his 37-year career as a Chrysler toolmaker. Bill’s voice was the first thing ALS took from him. Lacey (32) left her job to become his full-time caregiver and moved back into her childhood home with her two young daughters, Denver (8) and Charley (3).

Denver and Charley loved their "pap" and looked up to him. They saw all the hardships that he was going through —the falls, the loss of his voice, and the way ALS changed his life.

Denver came home from school once and asked “Why don’t people know what ALS is?” It really bothered her that people knew of things like cancer and other diseases but not ALS.

On Mother’s Day, Denver made an “I Love You” card for Lacey, reminding her mom she was loved and not alone while caregiving. Bill, unfortunately, passed away on June 14, 2024, but Lacey and Denver remain in the fight to end ALS in memory of their pap.
